British Council in Zambia in partnership with the British High Commission in Lusaka organised a series of events to celebrate 400 years of Shakespeare.

 How we celebrated Shakespeare

PlayYourPart Campaign

We participated in the PlayYourPart campaign by capturing recitings of favourite Shakespeare plays and sonnets mostly from academics and prominent Zambians.

A Midsummer Night's Dream theatre performances

This perfomance was a culmination of a colloboration between Barefeet Theatre, a popular Zambian Theatre group, and Ben Spiller, a UK based theatre Director from Derby's 1623 Theatre Company in the UK.

Barefeet put up a colourful performance of Shakespeare's A midsummer Night's Dream in Kitwe and Lusaka.

Shakespeare on Film

We screened some of Shakespeare's most renowed plays; Romeo and Juliet and Othello at the University of Zambia which were both viewed by the university's students and lecturers.

Shakespeare on Big Screen

We partnered with FreshView Cinemas in Lusaka to screen some of Shakespeare's works that have been adapted into film – movies screened were Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing.
